Dimples’ – Half Moon/Frogeyed

I am not actively DJing right now but I greatly appreciate when people make parts of their catalog available for free. I appreciated it when I was DJing, but i’ve been a bit underemployed so I deeply appreciate it now. I had this one in my cart over at bandcamp forever and realized today they had made it available as an optional free download. Now, when properly employed I always drop in a couple bucks, but for now, I get to download this and it’s available for when I am back in the booth.

And how interesting and weird and awesome is this? The whole album is weird with occasional pop outs of melody and pop. The tone of the guitars and weirdness on this track are perfect for me. How about you?

But it gets better. They just released a new LP on my birthday two weeks back. That’s a nice way to celebrate. I was originally going to say Sebadoh III meets Yo La Tengo. If that first track was more Sebadoh III, this is more weird Yo La Tengo. Though the tracks I heard on the first LP jump out at me a bit more, it’s worth checking out.

Julie Byrne – Natural Blue

Going deep into the pretty with today’s track. Julie Byrne’s second album is out and this song is ultra pretty. Something calming and somber to welcome the cold and snow and holiday.

Sad13 – Less Than 2

I’m a big fan of Speedy Ortiz front lady Sadie Dupuis. Besides making good music, she’s an overall inspiring artist and feminist. Her latest project is a solo music project Sad13. In any case, this video is well worth your time on many fronts. Also, an interview with Sadie. And here she picks some of her favorite music on bandcamp.

Taiwan Housing Project – Maintenance of an Application

Taiwan Housing Project is one of my favorite bands to come out with material in recent years. Just really damned good and interesting music. It makes me wake up every time I hear. Stop what i’m doing. And listen. Seriously, buy this 7″

Pile – ???

Perhaps by publication time i’ll figure out the name of this song. It’s a newish song from Pile off of a tape they put out last year. I don’t have the tape and the video doesn’t list the song title. But it’s a good tune and a fine video. Enjoy!
